This will be a relaxing, nurturing and I hope life changing weekend for anyone who finds that their compassion and care for others sometimes oversteps the boundaries of health and wellbeing for themselves. Suitable for anyone who works for the wellbeing of others and finds that this can, at times, leave you drained, depressed or overwhelmed. This caring can take any form – from traditional caring roles like health or welfare professionals to eco warriors or animal rights activists, basically anyone who depletes themselves in the care of or care for others.

‘The only way the weight of the world can break you down is if you carry it the wrong way.’ Lionel Suggs

I have been thinking of running this workshop for so many years, but I had to wait till the time was right.
This is what I mean;

One day a mother decided to take her overweight son to see the guru Gandhi, who had come to the next village. They walked for 5 hours and waited in line for another two. When they reached Gandhi, the mother asked, ‘Will you please tell my son to stop eating sweets?’
Gandhi looked at her, looked at the son, then back to the mother before replying, ‘Come back in 3 weeks.’ With weariness, but hope, the two trudged back home.
Three weeks later, they set out once more, at dawn. This time the queue was even longer. When they finally reached Gandhi and the mother reminded him why she had come, he replied, ‘Oh yes.’ Looking straight at the boy, he said, ‘Stop eating sweets!’
The mother looked a bit confused and said, ‘Could you not have told him that 3 weeks ago?’
Gandhi replied, ‘I had to see if I could do it myself first.

It seems that for most of my life I have worked, or more often fought, for the rights of the voiceless, the vulnerable and the helpless, often at the expense of my own life and energy. I think I might finally have the balance right and would like to use the skills, mindset and tools I have learned and developed to help others like me. I couldn’t do for others what I couldn’t do for myself.

This will be a relaxing, nurturing and I hope life changing weekend for anyone who finds that their compassion and care for others oversteps the boundaries of health and wellbeing for themselves. Suitable for anyone who works for the wellbeing of others and finds that this can, at times, leave you drained, depressed or overwhelmed. This caring can take any form – from traditional caring roles like healthcare professionals to eco warriors or animal rights activists, basically anyone who depletes themselves in the care of or care for others.
Our world and our planet need kind and compassionate people more than ever now. But it is so difficult to maintain a balance and to not get overloaded and overwhelmed with the huge weight of what we see as wrong or needing done.
If we can find our way to accomplishing what we can within the boundaries of what is healthy for us, then we will ultimately be of far more use to the causes we care about. That’s what this weekend is about. Finding that balance where our own energy can be cared for in order to enable us to be of more use to others.

Wash the weight of the world from your shoulders.

We will look at unexamined beliefs, expectations, fears, concerns that keep us in a cycle of drained energy and we will pick up some tools to help us cope in a way we can restore and maintain our positivity, our optimism and also our effectiveness.
This will be a very healing but also very relaxing weekend, with lots of love and laughter.
